SHARING IS ENCOURAGED · CREDIT PRESERVES THE SOURCE

Use & Attribution Policy

Hubert United wants its research shared, cited, discussed, and used to inform the public. This policy explains how to preserve the original source while keeping public information open and useful.

Please use our work—and keep the source attached

Journalists, advocacy organizations, researchers, residents, public officials, and other organizations are welcome to discuss and cite Hubert United’s work. When relying upon or summarizing an original Hubert United investigation, analysis, interview, candidate questionnaire, research project, timeline, graphic, or compilation, we ask that you:

  • Clearly identify Hubert United as the original source.
  • Link directly to the original Hubert United page whenever possible.
  • Do not represent Hubert United research as your own original investigation.
  • Do not remove Hubert United branding, attribution, source information, watermarks, or identifying information from Hubert United-created documents or graphics.
  • Clearly distinguish Hubert United analysis from the underlying government records or third-party materials.

What Hubert United does—and does not—claim

Hubert United does not claim exclusive ownership of facts, government records, statutes, public meeting records, agency reports, or other public-domain material. Those materials should remain accurately identified as government, public-domain, or third-party sources.

Factual information reported by Hubert United may be independently discussed and independently verified. Hubert United’s original writing, interviews, questions, graphics, timelines, analysis, selection and organization of material, and other protectable original expression remain protected to the extent provided by law.

Where a Hubert United page combines original analysis with public records, attribution should make that distinction clear: the records belong to their lawful source and status; the original explanation, analysis, presentation, and compilation are Hubert United’s work unless otherwise identified.

A simple attribution is usually enough

Suggested format:
Hubert United, “Title of the investigation or page,” HubertUnitedNC.org, direct URL.

When space is limited, “Source: Hubert United” with a direct link to the original page is appropriate. A link to the homepage alone is less useful when a direct source page is available.

Quotations, summaries, and extensive reuse

Reasonable quotation, summary, criticism, commentary, and reporting are welcome with clear attribution and a direct source link. Please do not reproduce an entire Hubert United article, report, interview, graphic, or substantial compilation in a way that substitutes for the original or removes its source identity.

Organizations or journalists seeking extensive reuse, republication, syndication, or adapted publication of Hubert United-created material are invited to contact us first so attribution, context, and source links can be handled clearly.

Standard for Hubert United-created PDFs and documents

Future Hubert United-created research packets, reports, investigative summaries, questionnaires, timelines, and similar documents should include this source-identification block where practical:

Hubert United
https://hubertunitednc.org
Original source: [direct Hubert United source-page URL]
Published/version: [date]
© 2026 Hubert United

This block is for Hubert United-created material. It must not be added to a government or third-party document in a way that suggests Hubert United created or owns that source document.
