Who operates Hubert United

Hubert United is an independently operated, nonpartisan community-information project led by Daniel Cornell for residents of Hubert, North Carolina. It is not a government agency, political party, campaign committee, incorporated nonprofit, limited-liability company, or official representative of Onslow County or the State of North Carolina.

Funding and conflicts

Hubert United is not presently supported by government funding, candidate funding, political-party funding, developer funding, or paid advertising. If that changes, the material relationship will be disclosed here and, when relevant, on affected coverage. Contributors are expected to disclose financial, political, professional, or personal interests that could reasonably affect public interpretation of their work.

Evidence standard

  • Primary sources first: ordinances, agendas, minutes, staff reports, contracts, public records, agency correspondence, datasets, maps, permits, budgets, engineering documents, and recordings.
  • Direct links whenever available: readers should be able to inspect the record supporting an important claim.
  • Fact and analysis are separated: documented facts are attributed; interpretations and inferences are identified as analysis.
  • Unknown means unknown: a missing record is not treated as proof that an event did or did not occur.
  • Conflicts are disclosed: when official records disagree, Hubert United identifies the discrepancy rather than silently choosing the preferred number.
  • Plans are not construction: proposed, studied, programmed, authorized, obligated, contracted, completed, and paid are treated as different statuses.

Corrections policy

Substantive factual errors will be corrected promptly and transparently. Major research pages will identify the correction or revision date and describe material changes. Minor spelling, formatting, accessibility, and link repairs may be made without a separate correction notice when they do not alter meaning.

Correction requests should identify the disputed statement and provide the best available supporting record. Requests, official responses, and additional evidence may be sent through the Contact page or to hubertunitednc@gmail.com.

Right of response

Public agencies, officials, candidates, applicants, property owners, contractors, and other affected parties are welcome to submit factual corrections, source documents, or an on-the-record response. Relevant responses may be linked, quoted, summarized, or published with the underlying coverage. Publication does not guarantee agreement, endorsement, or removal of accurately reported material.

Candidates, parties, and elections

Hubert United is nonpartisan. Candidate interviews use the same core format, comparable time, and principal questions, with reasonable candidate-specific questions and follow-ups based on experience or public record. Participation and nonparticipation are reported factually. Interview participation does not constitute endorsement.

Privacy and responsible publication

Public availability does not automatically make every personal detail necessary to republish. Hubert United may redact or omit personal contact information, private resident details, sensitive security information, precise infrastructure vulnerabilities, information concerning minors, or material whose publication could create an avoidable safety risk. Redaction does not change the substantive public record being discussed.

Document preservation and versioning

Whenever practical, Hubert United preserves original records in a public archive and links the source from the related analysis. Major dossiers include a publication or revision date, scope, limitations, and source library. Updated official records will be distinguished from superseded material rather than retroactively presented as though they were always available.

What this policy does not claim

Hubert United does not provide legal, engineering, accounting, or professional advice. Its work is public-interest research and community education. Technical conclusions are attributed to qualified sources; Hubert United’s own synthesis is identified as analysis.
